Award-winning artists, Alon Schwabe and Daniel Fernández Pascual of Cooking Sections, invite you to apply for one of two 3-year postdoctoral positions to be located at the Royal College of Art. CLIMAVORE is a platform and a movement that questions how to eat as humans change the climate. It responds to the new seasons of the climate crisis, such as drought, polluted oceans, wetland disappearance, floods and soil exhaustion that are changing food production and consumption, and the built environment at large. These positions are part of the new research initiative CLIMAVORE x Jameel at RCA that reimagines foodways for drylands and wetlands in the climate crisis.

The first role is dedicated to Water Buffalo Commons, a project that observes the transformation of the wetlands in the outskirts of Istanbul. Through the study of metabolic interactions across species the project works to preserve the food and ecological heritage of the wetlands, herders and their pastoralist ways of life. The candidate will have an excellent track record of experience in multidisciplinary research approaches to food systems, food policy, agroecology, social justice and the built environment. The second role will work on Monoculture Meltdown, a project focused on southern Italy that investigates the effects and consequences of monoculture landscapes. Through the study of dryland microclimates, the project aims to experiment with alternative farming methods in increasingly common drought conditions by seeking to diversify former monoculture crops that are failing to cope with climatic changes. The candidate will have an excellent track record of experience in multidisciplinary research approaches to food systems, food policy, agroecology, social justice and the built environment.
