Subterranean Carnival 13 Sep – 10 Nov

Welcome to Subterranean Carnival, an exhibition by (p)Art of the Biomass with guests, at Österängens konsthall, Jönköping, 13 Sep–10 Nov.

The art platform (p)Art of the Biomass / Janna Holmstedt & Malin Lobell – co-creators of The Posthumanities Hub – invite you to the Chlorophyl Bar, the Microbe Cinema, and the Compost-o-scene, to linger between feast and rest, gluttony and starvation.

The exhibition’s carnival is dedicated to the subterranean ones, the teeming life that we humans depend on but rarely see or give a thought to. It is an exercise in scale shifting, a play with relations, and a meditation on changing landscapes and lifeworlds. What unintended legacies and post-industrial monuments are we leaving behind? What emerges if we spend time with microbes and their way of being in the world? What scenes can a compost make?

The exhibition is made in collaboration with the art and research project Humus economicus at the National historical Museums in Sweden, that explores human-soil relations, and soil as naturecultural heritage. With support from Formas. (p)Art of the Biomass is supported by the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
